For Windows we recommend either zMUD or GMUD.
ZMUD
Many of our players use ZMUD. You can get the latest version of ZMUD from http://www.zuggsoft.com/zmud/zmudinfo.htm Once you've downloaded it, follow these easy steps:
For more details on what you can do with ZMUd, there are extensive help files included with the program.
Please note that this is shareware and if you use it for more than 30 days, you should consider registering it. The cost is US$30.
GMUD
Some of our players also use GMUD. You can get the latest version of GMUD from ftp://papa.indstate.edu/winsock-l/mud Once you've downloaded it, follow these easy steps:
We recommend that you set the font to Courier New (10pt) in the Options Menu, Font configuration. This will give you the optimal viewing environment. For more details on what you can do with GMUD, there is a manual that comes with it and the help is pretty good too.
GMUD is freeware and there are no costs associated with continued use.
For Macintosh users there are two good options, Savitar and Rapscallion.
Savitar
Savatar runs on PowerMacs running MacOS 8.6, 9.X and Mac OS X 10.x. Mac OS 8 and 9 users will need to insure that they have CarbonLib 1.6 or later installed (available from the Apple website, direct link from Savitar's download page, http://www.heynow.com/Savitar/download Once you've installed it, follow these easy steps:
You may choose to attempt auto-reconnect in a certain amount of seconds if the connection drops but we don't recommend you do this if you're not sitting at your keyboard. You can find online forums and a help manual for Savitar at http://www.heynow.com/Savitar
Savitar is a shareware application which you can register for US$15.
Rapscallion
Another solid MUD client for the Macintosh is Rapscallion. Although no work has been done on Rapscallion in a number of years, it's still got plenty of bells and whistles to recommend it. Rapscallion has never been updated to OSX 10.x but runs fine under the Classic Environment on these systems. Once you have installed the client follow these easy steps:
There's a free download and free serial number to be had at http://www.rapscallion.co.uk
TinTin++
As with anything for Unix, getting software is not for the faint of heart. Those of us who use Unix have always favored TinTin++. TinTin++ has gone through a lot of different developers over the years. Therefore the idea of a 'current version' is a little bit ambiguous. To get the version that we use, go to http://www.scandum.com/tintin/
You will need to compile it and then you can follow these easy steps:
TinTin++'s documentation primarily comes from online help. Type #help at the TinTin++ prompt for a list of available help topics.
TinTin++ is freeware and there are no costs associated with continued use.
